Luce Play Readers have been meeting every Wednesday at the Vineyard Haven Senior Center from 9 a.m. to noon to read plays of every era and of every genre, from Shakespeare to Shaw, Neil Simon to Ibsen and Albee. And then on rare occasions the group goes public and invites a crowd to come hear them read.

A TASTE OF JFK, MALCOLM AND ADAM


Script written, adapted and performed by Wallace Bullock

 
Well known as a lifeguard from the Oak Bluffs town beach in the 1980's, lifelong summer resident Wallace Bullock is writer, actor and educator.
In addition to performing with The Vineyard Playhouse company at the amphitheater more the two decades ago, Wallace has performed numerous original works at The House Tribes Theater in New York City and both the Bregamos Theater and Yale University's Peabody Museum in New Haven,CT.
JFK, MALCOLM AND ADAM was originally performed at The Sorbonne in Paris, France at the African-Americans in Europe Writers Conference.
As an educator Wallace taught English in Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean and New York City, until he was forced to retire due to a heart condition.
The recipient of a heart transplant in October of 2011, Wallace is now a tireless advocate for organ donation and community education.


Tickets are $10 at the door.
A portion of the proceeds from this reading will go to the New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center Cardiac Transplantation Program.

He founded the Yale Repertory Theater in New Haven, Connecticut, and the American Repertory Theater and Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He has been the theatre critic for The New Republic since 1959, and occasionally writes on politics for The Huffington Post.

F. Andrew Leslie was associated with the Dramatists Play Service for thirty years until retiring, as its president, in 1990. Before joining the Play Service Mr. Leslie was an artists representative with a major New York concert management company, an agent at the William Morris Agency, and a manager for actor/producer Maurice Evans.

Mr. Leslie and his wife now reside on the island of Martha's Vineyard, off the coast of Massachusetts.

Paula Lyons and Arnie Reisman, companions in words and companions for life, have been regular panelists on NPR's weekly comedy quiz show, SAYS YOU!, since the program debuted in 1996. They travel the country performing for dedicated fans. She spent 25 years as a television consumer reporter, five of those years on Good Morning America, and then became an executive coach. He spent an equal amount of time as a documentary producer, satirist, newspaper editor and columnist. He has just completed writing a full-length dark comedy for the stage.

Dr. Carol Rocamora is an educator, playwright, biographer, translator, and critic. She serves on the faculty of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, and also teaches in the MFA Theatre Program at Columbia. Her complete collected translations of Anton Chekhov's plays have been published by Smith & Kraus, and her new biography Anton Chekhov: A Life In Four Acts, came out this year.  She is a member of the Outer Critics Circle.

Larry has been a Producer and Writer for Television and Film for the last thirty years. He's best known for his work on BEVERLY HILLS, 90210 for which he wrote, produced and executive produced one-hundred twenty-eight hours from 1993-1998, the zenith of the show's popularity. From New York originally, he immigrated to Canada with family in 1969 and quickly became a dynamic contributor to the Canadian theatre world as an actor, playwright and artistic director of the Homemade Theatre Company of Toronto, a seminal performance group of the 1970's. Besides writing for stage, screen and television, Larry is a published poet and lyricist.

Opening Reception for The Art of Costume Design - Celebrating 30 Years at The Vineyard Playhouse with Guest Curators: MJ Bruder Munafo and Kate Hancock 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Virginia Weston Besse Gallery, Featherstone, Oak Bluffs. Continues through June 6. Open Daily 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. In celebration of the Vineyard Playhouse's 30th Anniversary with over 250 productions and for being the only year round professional theater on Martha's Vineyard, Featherstone Center for the Arts will host The Art of Costume Design– Celebrating 30 Years at the Vineyard Playhouse with Guest Curators: MJ Bruder Munafo and Kate Hancock. A wide array of costumes will be displayed in the gallery, featuring original designs by Abigail Bailey, Chrysal Parrot, Chelsea McCarthy, Cynthia Bermudes, and others. Shows represented include THE SNOW QUEEN, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, FLY and several more. Also included are watercolors by Reggie Ray, who is currently on Broadway as Costume Designer for “Stickfly". Among the costumes will be props designed by Sally Cohn and Kate Hancock. Photographs, playbills, and posters will hang throughout the gallery as well as other memorabilia from the productions.
