Janet Woodcock – Barnyard

August 19 to September 8, 2016
Janet studied photography at the Art Institute of Boston and the New England School of Photography in the early 80’s and has been creating images ever since. She has shown her work in numerous galleries, in nationally juried art shows, and here on island at the Vineyard Artisan’s Festivals since it’s inception.

Gretchen Feldman – Vineyard Reflections

August 5 to 18, 2016
The late Gretchen Feldman's luminous paintings depict exquisite and eternal themes: where land meets sea, day embraces night, sky kisses earth and all the color and radiance inherent in that balanced and alchemical sacred cycle of union and touch. A surprise diagnosis of lung cancer intensified her subsequent artistic explorations.

Harry Seymour – The Vineyard in Black and White

July 15 to August 4, 2016
This show comprises what Seymour describes as "negative giglees", and represents a retrospective of his work done over the past decade of painting on the Island. Unlike typical giglee prints that simply duplicate original paintings, his derivative giglees have been manipulated digitally, adding alterations that are themselves a part of the creative process. Although the most significant alteration is the conversion from color to black and white, there are other subtle changes from the original works.

Katherine Reid – Myriad Moments

As a native Islander and the daughter of an avid fisherman, scrimshaw artist, Island nurse and character, fishing has been part of my family life since I was young. I recall watching the rugged fishermen casting off their vessels at the docks in Menemsha to haul in their catches, and watching my father fly fish at the OB Steamship Authority beach, the line whipping through the air with deft precision. Vineyard Sound nestles us in its arms, provides for and protects our lives through our occupations, recreation and nostalgia. The importance of protecting our water is visible even in the very eyes of the island’s inhabitants.

Max Skjöldebrand – Distant Voices

An Exhibition of Black-and-white Photographs of Forlorn Buildings on Martha's Vineyard.

In March 2015, the West Tisbury Library hosted an exhibition of Max’s black-and-white photographs: “Lines, Light, Shadows, Reflections”. The MV Film Center hosted Max’s show “Going to the Pictures” in October 2015 exhibiting his photographs of the restoration of the Capawock and Strand cinemas. His continuing professional development includes Mentorship Programs with renowned photographer Alison Shaw.

Linda Thompson – Inspirations: Where Water Meets the Land

March 4 to April 7, 2016
For years, Linda Thompson worked as an industrial designer whose projects included a chain of stores, restaurants in the World Trade Center, and kitchens for high-profile clients. After retiring from a very successful career and moving to the Vineyard in 2002, Ms. Thompson is now focusing on creating artwork, painting what she knows best: up-Island scenes near her Chilmark home.

Ed Schulman – Winter Bright

February 6 to March 3 2016
Mr. Schulman has a style that is unlike any other artist on the Vineyard, and he is easily recognizable as his own. He uses a limited palette of muted colors favoring brick tones, grayish blues, off whites, and grays. He tends to favor the linear, making good use of somewhat elongated vertical figures — people, buildings, sailboats. His style could be called primitive but, more accurately, his paintings are highly stylized yet he makes perfect sense of his subjects with limited, well-placed lines, palette knife strokes, lots of texture, and a few daubs of color or white.

PAUL DOHERTY – REFLECTIVE ABSTRACTION

January 9 - February 4, 2016
While out kayaking during the early morning hours this past spring and summer in Vineyard Haven Harbor, I was drawn to the reflective light projecting off the wooden sailboats onto the water and their interaction with the waves. I have always been a fan of Abstract Art and as such, I approached each shot as if it were a painting. I am drawn to color, so by concentrating on the light during the early morning hours around sunrise, I was able to achieve the best saturation of color.
