Friends of the Vineyard Haven Library are honoring Nicole Galland and Chelsea McCarthy, adaptors and directors of Shakespeare for the Masses, as outstanding local writers. According to a press release, past honorees have included Art Buchwald, Lillian Hellman, and William Styron. “We’re a little stumped that they’ve chosen us, but we’re grateful, of course,” said Ms. Galland. The presentation of the honor will be on August 7 at 2 pm prior to the group’s 20-minute performance of “Pericles, Prince of Tyre” at the Vineyard Haven library. “It’s like an art opening,” said Ms. Galland, “except the ‘art’ is the silliest 20 minutes of the entire Vineyard summer.”
