About the artist:
Gretchen Baer is a native islander who now lives in Bisbee, Arizona. Daughter of Island artists Gene and Jackie Baer, Gretchen was raised to believe that anything can become art. From cars, boats, and canvases to the U.S./ Mexico border wall, Gretchen turns the world around her into art. She is the creator and director of Studio Mariposa, a free kids art center on the southern side of the border wall. As Arizona is considered the worst state in the country for non-mask compliance, Gretchen's “Wear A Mask” handmade poster campaign was born out of necessity. She has the distinction of having had the very first art show in the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse Art Space and is thrilled to have her “Wear A Mask” posters shown in the Playhouse windows now.
