The Playhouse literary team solicited 5 minute plays from writers who have a Vineyard connection. We read all the submissions, selected the top 6 and posted staged Zoom readings. Now we want you to vote on your favorite!

HATCHED by Michael Towers





Michael Towers is the Artistic Director of Westford Academy Theater Arts and the Summer School for the Performing Arts. In his twenty-year career as a theater educator, Michael has been blessed with the opportunity to play the roles of husband, father, director, actor and playwright. He is sincerely grateful to MJ Bruder Munafo, Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse and his wife Melissa and son Patrick for supporting his continued exploration of his craft.


INDOOR ACTIVITIES by Ledia Xhoga





Ledia Xhoga is a Brooklyn based playwright and fiction writer. Her plays have been performed at various venues in NYC and New Jersey, as part of the Downtown Urban Arts Festival and elsewhere. Her short fiction has been published in several journals and she’s currently working on a novel.


MR. MOONBARLEY by J.B. Miller





J.B. Miller has had several plays staged in New York, including BOBBY SUPREME, which was a hit at the 29th Street Rep and published in the Best Play series by Smith & Kraus, and WHITE LIES, staged by Naked Angels and subsequently by the Open Door Theatre. THE DORCHESTER was staged in London at the Jermyn Street Theatre, and MUNSHIMANIA was recently optioned by Tinderbox Productions. Miller cowrote the film Gringuito with Chilean director Sergio Castilla, and has published two books (My Life in Action Painting and The Satanic Nurses). He’s written for the New York Times, Paris Passion, Time-Out London, and received New York State, Yaddo and MacDowell Fellowships. He lives in London.


OUT OF MIND by Mona Hennessy





Mona Hennessy is an actress, sometimes singer, occasional director and now - first-time playwright! Writing this five-minute play opened a new door in the theater for Mona, who loves to write but has primarily focused (’til now) on short stories. Thanks to MJ and the MV Playhouse for this opportunity!


TWO PIGEONS by James E. Marlow





A graduate of Central High, Aberdeen, S.D., Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H., and the University of California, Davis, Marlow lives with his wife, the former Corinne Carter Thomas of New Orleans, in Mattapoisett, MA. Recent productions include Touched By War, which won the 2020 Kaplan Prize and was given a virtual production in May 2020, by Eventide Theater in Dennis, MA; Housing Violations, given a virtual production in May 2020, by the Geneva (NY) Guild; and Not Noticing, scheduled for a virtual performance in June 2020, at the Black Theater Company of Columbus, Ohio.


TAKE TWO by Dan Newman





Dan Newman has worked as a teacher, tech designer, carpenter, and Wilderness EMT. His writing has appeared in Outside magazine, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the Wall Street Journal, and other venues. He's currently at work on a mystery novel.
