John Washbrook (Stage Manager)
After a 35 year acting career that began at the age of 7, and a 33 year banking career, John came out of retirement for one of his favorite plays, OUR TOWN. He is still remembered by some fans for his childhood role as Ken in the MY FRIEND FLICKA TV series. This is his first appearance at Martha's Vineyard Playhouse.
John Noble Barrack (George Gibbs)
John is thrilled to be back at the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse. Katherine Reid (Emily Webb)
Katherine is a native islander and a recent Theater graduate from the University of Vermont. She has had the honor of wearing many different hats at Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse throughout her theatrical career and would not have it any other way. She hopes this play will inspire you to enjoy the simplest things in life, “every, every minute”.
John Kooi (Mr. Webb)
John is making his debut at Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse. New York credits include OTHELLO, TWELFTH NIGHT and ROMEO AND JULIET. Among his regional credits are RACE and ROMANCE (Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater); YANKEE TAVERN, THE LITTLE FOXES and CLYBOURNE PARK (New Century Theatre); A MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN, DINAH WAS and AS YOU LIKE IT (Merrimack Repertory Theatre); HAMLET (The Commonwealth Shakespeare Company); MEMORIAL and UNCLE JACK (Boston Playwrights’ Theatre); RANCHO MIRAGE (New Repertory Theatre); OPERATION EPSILON (Nora Theatre Company); THE GLASS MENAGERIE. THE IMMIGRANT and THE WOMAN IN BLACK (Shadowland Theatre); ROMEO AND JULIET (The Cleveland Orchestra); and MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING (Pasadena Shakespeare Company). His film and television work includes Stronger, Sins Of The Preacher and Labor Day.
Shelagh Hackett (Mrs. Webb)
Shelagh Hackett is very happy to be in Our Town. Previously in 2019, she appeared in her solo show, KISS ME, I'M IRISH and as Masha in Christopher Durang’s VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE. Outdoors at the Tisbury Amphitheater, she played Gertrude in HAMLET and the title character in JULIUS CAESAR. Shelagh studied and worked a bit in NYC but now enjoys life in Chilmark with her husband and three kids.
Paul Munafo (Dr. Gibbs)
Paul has been a part of Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse for many, many years.  In that time he has acted, sung, stage managed, designed sets, lights and sound, and built some amazing sets as the Playhouse's master carpenter. Last summer he appeared in PASSIONATA as Antonio, the Italian gardener.
Elle Lash (Mrs. Gibbs)
After a fifteen-year hiatus from performance, Elle is thrilled to be back onstage with this wonderful group of performers at the MV Playhouse. Before moving to the Vineyard, Elle lived in New York where she founded Double Helix Theatre Company and studied and worked with a wide range of theatre companies from SITI to the 52nd Street Project, the NYC Fringe to Circle in the Square. She thanks MJ for the opportunity, and Chris, Carlotta and Tobey for their love and support.
Sydney Emerson (Rebecca Gibbs)
Sydney is 13 years old and attends the West Tisbury school. She would like to thank her grandparents and mother for driving her around and supporting her, Gigi and Samantha for running lines, and all her friends who have tolerated her blabbing about the show for weeks.
Dillon Fondren (Wally Webb)
Dillon is excited to return to the Playhouse stage for the fifth time. Previous appearances include THE SNOW QUEEN, THE BABYLONIAN TALMUD, SYBIL’S LAMENT and MOTHERS & SONS. He is currently in 7th grade at Falmouth Academy.
Fin Hackett Smilie (Joe Crowell Jr. / Si Crowell)
Fin attended Summer Stars Children's Theater Camp and is making his theatrical debut.
Wyatt Kitchen-Glodgett (Howie Newsome)
Wyatt is returning to the stage after years of focusing on school. He is studying Psychology and Business at Champlain College. He last appeared in the title role in The Nutcracker at the Vermont Flynn Theater. Thank you to the Playhouse for the opportunity to be onstage again!
Laura C. Jahn (Professor Willard)
A year-round Vineyard Haven resident, Laura is more often seen through the Playhouse box office window than on stage. She might have even helped to make the program you are reading tonight! OUR TOWN is her first theatrical appearance in over a decade. Offstage, she enjoys singing, cooking, video games, and petting cats.
Xavier Powers (Simon Stimson)
Xavier has performed in many Playhouse shows over the years including this summer’s production of THE WINTER’S TALE, last summer’s production of HAMLET and 2017’s holiday production of THE SNOW QUEEN. He is a regular company member of SHAKESPEARE FOR THE MASSES and also performs with ITW, most recently in 2016’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.
Jen Maxner (Mrs. Soames)
Jen loves pretending to be other people. She would like to thank Josie and Talulah for making this project possible by surviving the last month on Annie’s Mac and Cheese.
John Ortman Jr. (Constable Warren)
John began acting in 1970. Among his favorite roles include Paul in CARNIVAL, Joe in THE SHADOW BOX, and Scrooge in SCROOGE THE MUSICAL. His first role at the Playhouse was in 2005 as the adult Ralph Parker in A CHRISTMAS STORY.
Anne Culbert (ASM/Ensemble) and Amelia Simmons (ASM/Ensemble)
Anne is a high school senior and wants to go on to study theater. She has been in the MVRHS musicals. This is her third Playhouse production. She last appeared in this summer's THE WINTER'S TALE. She hopes to do more before she leaves for college. // Amelia is in her senior year at MVRHS. She last appeared in this summer’s production of THE WINTER’S TALE.
Carrie B. White (Sam Craig)
Carrie has been acting, dancing, and choreographing since childhood. Her favorite lead role was as the Wicked Witch of the West in a production in Chicago. She has been involved at the Playhouse over the years and has choreographed for dance festivals and studios. Carrie is also an attorney and lives with her husband and son.
Eugene Johnson (Joe Stoddard)
Gene grew up in Medford , and graduated in 1973 from the Northeastern University College of Pharmacy. Other academic credits: an MBA from Bentley College in 1986; the University of New Hampshire with an MHA; Massachusetts School of Law in 2003. He worked at Tufts-New England Medical Center and Children’s Hospital prior to being recruited to Hampton General Hospital. Gene is a former Director of Pharmacy at Boston City Hospital, now known as Boston Medical. Gene is currently a dockworker for the SSA at the OB terminal. He is a pre-published author with an interest in downhill skiing, sailing and playing the guitar. This is his stage debut.
T. George Davis (Mr. Carter/Ensemble)
George is a lawyer, musician, a DJ on WMVY, and currently serves as the County of Dukes County Clerk of Courts. This is his theatrical debut at the Playhouse.
Ida Bailey (Ida/Ensemble)
Ida was last seen on the Playhouse stage as a child in the role of "Bluebell" in THE SNOW QUEEN. She has a love of theater and has traveled far and wide to enjoy seeing plays. She ushers regularly. When she is not on the stage, she is grooming dogs or working at the YMCA.
Martha Keenan (Martha/Ensemble)
This is Martha's first performance at Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse. She is a member of Virginia's Drama Club. She is happy to be performing in OUR TOWN.
Gayle D. Stiller (Irma/Ensemble)
Gayle is happy to be returning to the stage of Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse after a hiatus of twenty years. As a second generation Vineyard native, she was one of the original members of Mary Payne’s Island Theatre Workshop and Children’s Theatre, over fifty years ago. She ushered for the Vineyard Players, the summer stock theater from Ithaca College, and attended Ithaca after high school. She is currently completing her career at the Edgartown District Court, which may take awhile.
Nancy Jephcote (Musician)
Nancy is a performer in classical, traditional and innovative genres, She is best-known as a violinist, teacher, singer and songwriter, having composed music since childhood. Raised by classical musicians in Iowa City, she performed across the Pacific Northwest and UK before settling on MV. Albums include “Garland of Rain” and “Pokedelic.”
Paul Thurlow (Musician)
Paul has performed and recorded with The Andy Thurlow Quintet, Die Kunst der Drum, the Uululators, Nancy Jephcote, Paul Thurlow World Jazz, the Flying Elbows, Tristan Israel and many others. He is currently at work on his sixth solo record, of music for piano and percussion.
