In this beautiful memory play by Pulitzer winning playwright Lynn Nottage (RUINED), Ernestine Crump takes you on a journey with the Crump family. Recently widowed, Godfrey and his two daughters, Ernestine and Ermina, move from Florida to Brooklyn in the fall of 1950. As Godfrey struggles with grief, racism and the fears of being a single parent, the arrival of his wife’s outspoken sister, Lily, heats up the household passion driving Godfrey to follow the advice of a charismatic spiritual leader, Father Divine. From the New York Post – “Imagine a pairing…between Tennessee Williams and Lorraine Hansberry.”
