The Vineyard Gazette

Click on the Now Playing tab on the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse website and what comes up is a little like a virtual version of Five Corners in August. The schedule is robust.

Passionata, written by Gwyn McAllister and directed by MJ Bruder Munafo, begins on June 26 and runs through July 14. Curtain rises on opening night at 8 p.m., with the remaining run beginning at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

Monday night specials, early readings of works in progress, begin on July 2 with The Duel, written by Carol Rocamora. The Monday readings are not every week but they run through Sept. 3, starting at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, July 7, the Fabulists begin their run of Saturday morning theatre for children at the Tisbury Amphitheater at the Tashmoo Overlook. The performances run all summer long, beginning each Saturday at 10 a.m..

On July 18, Hamlet takes up residence at the Tisbury Amphitheater in the evening, with Scott Barrow in the lead role. Outdoor performances run Wednesdays through Saturdays at 5 p.m. through August 11.

Back at the playhouse, four full-scale theatrical productions will run through the summer and fall. Following Passionata is Angela’s Mixtape written by Eisa Davis and directed by Adrienne Williams. It opens July 21 and runs through August 11.

Chilmark, written and directed by Catherine Rush, opens August 18 and runs through Sept. 8.

The Room Where I Was Held, written by David Zax and directed by MJ Bruder Munafo, opens Sept. 15 and runs until Oct. 6.

The Summer Stars Theatre Camp starts July 2 for ages 9 to 14. Little Stars, ages 6 to 8, take center stage the week of July 23 to 27.
